Description:

A welcome home celebration for Bravo Company is set for July 17.

Members of Bravo 2/121, the Georgia Army National Guard unit stationed at Newnan's Jackson-Pless Armory, returned home from Afghanistan in late March.

A ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in downtown Newnan, said Robert Stokely, co-chairman of the family readiness group for Bravo 2/121.

The ceremony will include local government officials bringing greetings, as well as one soldier being promoted. Plans are for some of the wounded soldiers from the unit to be in attendance.

The most seriously injured solider, SFC Mark Allen, continues his recovery at the VA Polytrauma Center in Tampa, Fla. Hopes are that he may be able to be linked in by web-cam, Stokely said.

After the ceremony, the soldiers and their families will enjoy a welcome home cookout with fun family activities, Stokely said.

Anyone wishing to help with the cookout may contact Stokely at 678-416-1387 orrrmwastokely@aol.com
